At Comanche Moon Wagyu, our story is rooted in family, forged in service, and fueled by a passion for raising exceptional American Wagyu Akaushi beef. For generations, the Lewis family has worked the land, cultivating a deep connection to agriculture and a commitment to stewarding it responsibly.
From Military Service to the Ranch
After 42 years of service to the U.S. Army, including 28 years as an officer (Airborne Ranger) Joe Lewis returned to the family ranch with a vision to carry forward our agricultural legacy. The military instilled in Joe a sense of discipline, leadership, and purpose—values that now guide every aspect of Comanche Moon Wagyu. With a desire to grow the ranch, Joe expanded our land and transitioned to raising cattle full-time, blending tradition with innovation to create something truly special.
Guided by Regenerative Farming and Humane Practices
Joe’s journey into ranching was shaped by years of studying regenerative farming, inspired by pioneers like Joel Salatin. Salatin’s philosophy of working in harmony with nature to heal the land became the cornerstone of our practices at Comanche Moon Wagyu. Equally influential was Temple Grandin, whose teachings on gentle animal handling and humane husbandry resonated deeply with Joe’s belief that respectful care leads to healthier animals and better beef. Our cattle are raised with patience and compassion, grazing on lush pastures in an environment that honors their well-being.
The Discovery of Akaushi Wagyu
A few years ago, Joe discovered the extraordinary qualities of Akaushi Wagyu, also known as Red Wagyu. Renowned for its rich, buttery flavor, exquisite marbling, and health benefits—like higher levels of heart-healthy monounsaturated fats—Akaushi beef was a revelation. Joe knew this was the future of Comanche Moon Wagyu. Using our trusted Angus cows as mothers, we began raising Akaushi American Wagyu, combining time-honored ranching traditions with the artistry of this exceptional breed.
Our Commitment to Quality and Sustainability
At Comanche Moon Wagyu, we’re more than cattle ranchers—we’re stewards of the land and advocates for sustainable, humane farming.
